- January 11 - The Phoenix Light and Power Company received four carloads of coal as it switched from using wood for fuel.
- January 19 - The Hotel Adams opened with a reception for legislators.
- January 23 - The Illinois State Society held its annual picnic meeting at Phoenix Park with over 200 in attendance.
- April 17 - Donofrio opened a candy and fruit store at 233 E. Washington.
- August 3 - A massive swarm of bugs and crickets hit Phoenix: the fronts of buildings on Washington Street were so covered that it was difficult to see the brick.
- August 17 - City Council adopted an ordinance making it illegal to ride bicycles on city sidewalks and imposed a $10 fine.
- August 21 - The Phoenix Candy and Ice Cream Soda Parlor opened for business.
- November - Fourteen women organize the Friday Club to start a public library.
