Events

  • January 21 - Baron M. Goldwater arrived in Phoenix from Prescott to find a suitable location for a branch store.
  • January 27 - William Jennings Bryan gave an address at city hall on the silver question.
  • January 29 - City Council met to approve the purchase of a new set of uniforms for the "fire boys."
  • Feburary 11 - El Zaribah Shrine Temple was opened.
  • March 31 - The Western Union Telegraph Company office opened with a direct wire to Los Angeles, California.
  • April 27 - The first passenger elevator in Arizona was placed in service in Phoenix.
  • May 19 - The great Wallace Show, a traveling circus, was in town. The parade, over a mile long, was the best ever seen in Phoenix. Local schools let students out to watch the parade.
  • June 12 - Central Avenue toll gate is erected, requiring all parties using that road to pay a toll.
  • June 25 - City Manager Pratt gave each policeman a pass for the electric street car line.
  • July 1 - Pinney & Robinson received a Punnett Companion bicycle. It weighed about 40 lbs. and had two seats side-by-side.
  • August 10 - Pinney & Robinson received a new air tank, the first in the territory, to inflate bicycle tires.
  • September 17 - Republican Party county convention was convened.
  • October 28 - City Council voted to levy a fine of $50 or 50 days in jail for riding a bicycle faster than 8 miles-per-hour on city streets.
