Stubs are short articles created to avoid the dreaded red link and to start the ball rolling for a longer article. Their use is officially discouraged because they trump up the article count even though they can't be considered an article. They also mask the true holes in PhoenixHistory.com.

They are useful, though, if the author is planning on making good on the promissory note they represent. Or if the article is going to be a collaborative effort that needs a catalyst.
