- October 20 - John T. Alsap presides over a meeting to select a townsite. A committee is formed to investigate the options.
- October 26 - Committee members John Moore, Martin P. Griffin, and Darrell Duppa recommend a 320-acre site, which is accepted, and Duppa recommends the name Phoenix. The Salt River Valley Town Association is formed to develop the original townsite.
- December 17 - Sale of townsite lots advertised in Prescott Miner. [1]
